Saint Joseph's Hospital
We restored the zinc (a.k.a. white bronze) sculpture of St. Joseph from St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta to its original condition.
First we removed several layers of previously applied finishes and paints with a walnut shell blast.
Next, we constructed a neck support element and filled in several cracks across surface of the sculpture. Then we reattached the head and filled in voids in the back of the neck with lead.
After repairing the neck, the entire surface of the sculpture was cleaned to remove any dust and residue left behind by the walnut shell blast.
The surface of the sculpture was then sprayed with a two-part oxidation inhibiting primer.
Finally, the sculpture was treated with a faux bronze finish, and the trim of robe was re-gilded.
